Neighbourhood Support Tai Tokerau

With all the issues we are having lately please find your way over to Neighbourhood Support Tai Tokerau.
It is the best place to start to look after your own area.
A lot can be said for a supportive community.
They are also holding community meetings over time to get people activated to working together.
Please look into it and look out for one another.

I am on the main committee and they are trying to encourage people to start their own street neighborhood watch, like they used to have.
They are connected with the Police, Local Council and communities.

Some of the issues in a few nutshells...

No matter how many police or security we have, they can't be everywhere and we need eyes out in the community looking out for one another.

The more we use spaces and inhabit them, the safer they become, more users means a safer space. The shared path for example, the more people use it, the safer it will be.

Community Facebook pages are fantastic for looking out for one another warning whats happening around the place.
But have you spoken with those directly on your own street?
Your next door neighbor?

There is a lot of responsibilities out there and the District Council has limited resources to deal with what Police should be doing.

Local councils can only do so much, Citysafe and Armourguard have limited responsibility.

As much as the council has tried to get more support from the Police, there is only so much we can say to get more as its not up to us.

There already are a lot of cameras, and they are only so good. Yes there is a need for more but there are also limited funds that get spread around a wide area.
They all have their limits and require volunteers to monitor them too.

It is not up to the Local Council to deal with violence, bullying, drugs, school violence, health issues. These more fall into the category or District Health Boards, Police, Central Government, and Ministry of Education.
It is up to all of us to look out for each other too.

A local council can put a bylaw in place, but it needs the people to follow the rules. There are rules and guidelines, and civic responsibility and we all have to play a part.

Its up to each one of us to look out for each other. Say something, take a photo, record a video, notify your neighbors, report an issue to the police, council, our friends, and family.

Most issues need to be reported to the police.
Dial 111 for active request or 105 for a past issue.

Any damaged infrastructure or hazards, urgent contact 09 4304200 or report it on the website.

Connections are one of my points to bring to council. Think about safety and usability.
